Art History Unit 1: Profile Profile


MONDAY JAN 27:

Objective: Students will be able to use Photobooth to take a profile picture of themselves and upload that photo to sumopaint.com/app in order to begin their profile profile art.
 
Do Now: Teacher Demo of how to create a portrait in sumopaint

Classwork:
  1. Use PHOTOBOOTH in your applications folder to take both a front and side/profile photo of yourself.
  2. Pull the photo onto your desktop.
  3. Go to  http://www.sumopaint.com/app/ and click OPEN from COMPUTER tab. Choose your side view picture. 
  4. Go to LAYER-> ADD NEW LAYER
  5. Choose a good size brush  (5 pixels) and a color and trace the outline of your profile. Make sure you are on LAYER 1, not the original picture of your face
  6. Hide the original photo by clicking next to it and checking your work. Make sure you click back to LAYER 1 before continuing to draw.
  7. Use google images and colors to fill in your design.
  8. Save as  yourname.SUMO to your computer (use documents folder)
Homework:
How do you visually represent yourself? Come in tomorrow with a list of 10 things that make up who you are (examples: Family, Culture/Country, Friends, Foods, Music, Fashion, Hobbies/Interests, Personality type, Favorites, etc)

Tuesday Jan 28

Objective: Students will be able to utilize aspects of Egyptian art to improve their own profile work- especially proportion and profile. 

Do  Now: Review the basics of Egyptian Art

Classwork: 
The Egyptians used proportion (size in relation to other objects) to show importance. Make the objects in your head proportional to their importance in your life. 
  • Go to  http://www.sumopaint.com/app/ and click OPEN from COMPUTER tab. Choose your saved image from Documents folder (yourname.sumo)
  • Using your HOMEWORK list of items that visually represent you- open a NEW TAB and search Google for a good image of your item
  • Pull the image onto the desktop OR copy the URL of the image
  • In SUMOPAINT, go to FILE-> Import to Layer
  • Add the images. Erase any negative (background) space using the MAGIC WAND tool or the ERASER tool.
  • Pull additional layers/images UNDER LAYER 1 (your profile tracing). 
  • Save as  yourname.SUMO to your computer (use documents folder)

WEDNESDAY JAN 28

Do Now: Open your sumopaint project from Documents folder

Classwork: Continue adding layers and images and colors until all negative and positive space is filled. 
 
FINAL IMAGE SHOULD LOOK SIMILAR TO THIS:
